We know learning online might be new for you, and that’s okay. This guide is here to show you how everything works, what your lessons will look like, and how to get the most out of your time with us.
The good news? It’s actually really fun! Our teachers are brilliant, and lots of students tell us they enjoy learning this way (and it doesn’t take long to get into the flow).

The Learning Cloud - your online classroom
The Learning Cloud is where your live lessons happen; it’s your online classroom.
When you join a lesson, you’ll see your teacher, other students, and everything you need to take part. It’s a safe, supportive space where everyone’s here to learn, just like you.
In the Learning Cloud, you can:
- Use the chat to answer questions or ask for help
- Raise your hand ✋ if you want to speak
- Take part in polls, quizzes, and activities
- Use your microphone if you feel comfortable
- Send private messages to your teacher if you need to check something quietly
- Use interactive tools like the whiteboard and emojis to share how you’re feeling
💡 Lessons are recorded, so you can always watch them again later if you miss anything or want to a quick recap.
Once you’ve joined a few lessons, the Learning Cloud will start to feel really easy to use, and we’ll help you every step of the way.

- Weekly lessons give your day structure and purpose.
- This can help with focus, motivation, and feeling good about your progress.
🧠 Attendance supports your wellbeing
- Lessons are a safe space where you can be yourself and talk if you need to.
- You’re not alone – there are people who care and want to support you.
🔁 Missed a lesson? You can catch up!
- If you miss a session, don’t worry – you can watch the playback.
- Great for reviewing tricky bits or catching up.
- But live lessons are best for asking questions and joining in real time.
🗣️ Need help? Just ask!
- If attending lessons feels hard, talk to your teacher or a safe adult.
- We’re here to help you find a way that works for you.

The Student Portal
It’s the place you’ll go to:
- Join your live lessons
- See your timetable
- Access the Learning Cloud
- Check any messages from your teacher
- Complete your one-page profile
Getting to know your portal is the first step to feeling confident with your learning.

Your progress
At the end of every session, your teacher will complete three assessments based on what they saw in the lesson:
- Progress: how well you worked towards the lesson objective
- Engagement: how actively and positively you took part
- Communication: how clearly and respectfully you communicated
These quick assessments help you understand what’s going well and where to focus next time.
📝 Check your assessments after each lesson in your student portal; they’re there to support your progress and help you grow.
Remember: it’s not about getting everything right every time, it’s about learning, improving, and building confidence as you go.
The star system
Every lesson is a fresh start. You begin with 3 stars: ⭐⭐⭐
You may even want to put your three stars in the chat at the start of the lesson so you can see them.
To keep your 3 stars, you will need to:
- Listen respectfully
- Use polite and considerate language (no swearing)
- Follow instructions
- Wait your turn to speak
- Stay focused on learning
- Respect your teacher and your peers
If you lose a star:
⭐ Your teacher will explain calmly what you need to improve.
If you lose all 3 stars:
⏸️ You will take a 10-minute break from the Learning Cloud tools.
- You can still see and hear the lesson.
- You can private message your teacher if you need help.
- ▶️ After 10 minutes, you can re-join the lesson and continue learning.
In these 10 minutes, you will make every effort to:
- Not distract or disturb your teacher, who is teaching the class
- Not leave the lesson and re-join to gain access to the chat
- Use the time to reflect on your communication
Confidence and enjoyment check-ins
Every Wednesday, when you log in to the Tute platform, you’ll see a quick pop-up asking you two simple questions:
- How confident do you feel in your learning this week? 💪
- How much are you enjoying your lessons? 🎉
You’ll move a slider from 1 to 5 to show how you’re feeling. It only takes a few seconds, and then it disappears once you’ve submitted your answers.
Why do we ask? 🤔
Because how you feel about learning matters! It helps us understand whether you’re feeling confident, supported, and enjoying what you’re doing.
The Primary Hub
The Primary Hub is your go-to place for help, support, and useful info while you’re learning with Tute.
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
- 📝 Student work – Galleries of student work, yours could be on there too!
- 💬 Useful information and tips – things that are good to know.
- 🔔 Updates – Important notices and recent changes.
- 🙋 FAQs – quick answers to common questions.
- 🚀 And more

Staying safe online
Your safety is really important to us, both in your lessons and online in general.
Here are a few key things to remember:
- Never share personal information in lessons, like your full name, address, phone number, or social media accounts
- Use the private chat if you feel worried or need to speak to your teacher or mentor
- Be kind and respectful in the chat and during sessions – everyone deserves to feel safe and supported
- Keep your passwords private and log out when you’re done
- If something doesn’t feel right, talk to a safe adult
💡 You can always visit the Primary Hub for more help and advice on staying safe, looking after your wellbeing, and knowing who to talk to.
What if I have a technical problem?
Ask your parent or carer to call us on 0330 330 9751:
- Option 1 – for help with tech problems (like sound, video, or joining lessons)
- Option 2 – if your timetable isn’t showing correctly
