Key stage 2

Introducing the creative curriculum

Building confidence, creativity and engagement through live, play-based learning

Primary learners deserve more than coverage of core subjects, especially in an online setting.

The Creative Curriculum, already part of our KS1 offer, is now available within our KS2 Virtual School provision. It gives students structured opportunities for imagination, expression and creative exploration alongside their core learning.

Together, these experiences help create an engaging, rich and inclusive curriculum that supports confidence, communication and academic progress.

Through storytelling, music, art and creative exploration, students develop oracy, collaboration and self-expression while engaging with learning in new ways.

The Creative Curriculum

Students take part in four live creative lessons each week as part of our Virtual School provision.

Each lesson is interactive and designed specifically for online delivery, using digital tools creatively to encourage exploration, participation and collaboration.

Aligned to the National Curriculum, the programme complements core learning and contributes to a balanced KS2 curriculum.

Story Time

Imagination-led lessons that strengthen literacy, listening skills and spoken confidence through shared storytelling and role-play.

Explore

History, geography and drama brought to life through discussion, interpretation and creative response.

Music

Rhythm, performance and sound exploration that develop focus, collaboration and emotional expression.

Art

Opportunities to experiment with colour, form and digital tools, encouraging originality and aesthetic appreciation.

Within the wider primary curriculum

Within our primary Virtual School model, learning is structured across three complementary strands: Core, Creative and Enrichment.

Each strand supports a different aspect of development, and together they form a balanced primary curriculum.

The team behind,

the Creative Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum grew from our commitment to ensuring children learning online still experience joy, imagination and expressive learning.

We have seen reluctant speakers begin to share ideas.

We have seen students take pride in their work.

We have seen confidence developed in art and music carry into core lessons.

Hear from our primary team about why this approach sits at the heart of our KS2 offer.

Why it matters:

Rebuilding confidence
through creativity

Primary education lays the foundations for confidence, communication and curiosity. An engaging, rich and inclusive curriculum helps ensure every learner has a way to connect with learning and develop their voice.

For some learners, particularly in alternative or blended provision, creative subjects are often where confidence begins to return.

The Creative Curriculum supports this by:

Measurable shifts in engagement and confidence

We have seen measurable shifts in how students engage with learning, communicate with one another and participate in lessons since introducing the Creative Curriculum.

Creative learning doesn’t replace core progress.

It strengthens it.
