Express GCSE Courses
A one-term pathway
to GCSE outcomes
For some year 11 students, the final term arrives without access to GCSE provision.
Extended absence, placement breakdown or late referral can leave limited time to put a viable exam route in place before the summer series begins.
Where a student does not currently have a secure GCSE pathway, Express provides a defined, one-term route aligned to exam board requirements. From after Easter through to the summer exams, it focuses on core specification content, past paper practice and targeted preparation within the time remaining.

Express formally begins after Easter, providing focused preparation leading into the summer GCSE exam series.
Students may be enrolled during the spring term. Early enrolment allows more time to revisit core specification content before the final phase of intensive exam preparation begins.

Express is appropriate when a year 11 student does not currently have a viable GCSE pathway in place for the summer exam series. This may include students who:
- Are currently out of education or unable to access mainstream GCSE provision
- Have experienced prolonged absence due to anxiety, EBSNA, medical need or exclusion
- Have significant gaps in specification coverage with limited time remaining to close them
- Have been unable to sustain a full mainstream timetable despite prior support
- Require a clearly defined, exam-aligned route through to summer assessment

Express is delivered as a focused, one-term GCSE pathway aligned to relevant exam board specifications. Within a fixed timeframe, it is structured to maximise impact by:
- Narrowing the curriculum to high-leverage specification content
- Embedding past paper questions and exam technique throughout lessons
- Structuring teaching into a clear, predictable weekly routine
- Revisiting key concepts through retrieval and guided practice
- Sequencing learning to build confidence towards summer exams

- Maintaining access to recognised qualifications before transition
- Protecting progression into sixth form, college, apprenticeships or training

- Supporting settings in securing suitable education through to the end of year 11

Students enrolled on shared provision are also scheduled into a weekly form group session.
A dedicated enrichment day is available as an additional option, covering personal development, wellbeing and careers education.

Express begins after Easter. Students may be enrolled during the spring term, allowing more preparation time before the final phase of focused exam delivery begins.
