Removing barriers to exams
By Becky Clark, Assistant Head of T&L – Curriculum | 19 Dec 2025
At Tute, we work closely with our partners every day to help remove barriers and fill critical gaps in education, so more students can access the learning and qualifications they deserve.
For some students, even when learning is accessible, attending a traditional exam centre can still be overwhelming or simply not possible.
As you’ll know, Tute is a Pearson Edexcel approved online centre. This means students enrolled on our International GCSE courses can sit their exams from home through Pearson Edexcel’s Remote Invigilation Service (RIS), while still being assessed under secure online supervision.
At a glance
Remote invigilation allows students studying Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs to sit their exams from home through Pearson Edexcel’s secure online assessment platform.
Exams are set, supervised and awarded by the exam board, with results and certificates equivalent to those gained through a physical exam centre.
Remote invigilation is available through Tute for students who are enrolled on our International GCSE courses.
It may be appropriate for students who cannot access a traditional exam centre due to anxiety, emotionally based school non-attendance (EBSNA), medical needs or safeguarding considerations. Each student is considered individually.
Exams are delivered through Pearson Edexcel’s Remote Invigilation Service, using a secure online assessment platform.
Students complete their exams from home under live online supervision. Identity checks, room checks and compulsory familiarisation take place in advance to ensure students feel comfortable and confident on the day.
Key dates for exam entry and system familiarisation apply.
Full timelines are covered in the webinar playback and can be talked through with your Account Manager.
Watch our 30-minute webinar to see how remote invigilation works in practice, including safeguarding, technology requirements and common questions from partners and parents.
For some students, the exam centre itself is the barrier – not ability, effort or preparation.
Remote invigilation removes that barrier for the students it is right for, allowing them to sit exams in a familiar,
calmer environment while maintaining full exam board standards for integrity and safeguarding.

Remote invigilation can be the right option for some students, and not for others.
If you’re considering whether this approach would support a particular student, as always, we’re here to talk it through with you.
